“Respecting tradition and daring to be bold, because one can’t go without the other.”
Femininity, beauty, colour: these are themes upon which both photography and the House of Dior built their founding values. From this shared aesthetic quest “Dior, The Art of Colour” was born. For the first time last year in Arles, this exhibition presented the photographic and chromatic universes of the three artistic directors of the House of Dior. Today, Dior decided to renew the experience by launching an unprecedented prize called the Dior Photography Award for Young Talents, in partnership with the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie and hosted by Luma Arles. Built around a mutual will for sharing and visionary boldness, this contest aims above all to be an international dialogue about young creation.
Students and alumni from eight international photography schools were invited to create around a unifying theme: Woman-Women Faces. Their work, both varied and innovative, was submitted to an exceptional Jury presided over by the distinguished photographer Peter Lindbergh and composed of Maja Hoffmann, President and founder of Luma Arles, Simon Baker, Director of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie and Claude Martinez, Chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Parfums. Representing a call to all creatives, this exhibition presents the work of the winning artist, the Laureates, as well as those with special Jury Mentions, showcasing many eclectic, poetic and inspiring images from young artists giving us snapshots from a borderless youth.
